Bass

The 3/4 size bass is the standard size for adults. Rarely will an adult play on a 7/8 or a 4/4 sized bass. There are also smaller sizes available for younger students.

As a general rule of thumb, when both the bass and the player are standing upright, the bridge should be around the same height as the large knuckles of the student's right (bow) hand. The most important factor is that the instrument is comfortably supported by the student’s left side of abdomen and that the student can reach the higher registers of the fingerboard with ease. As a general guideline, the student should be able to touch the bridge with their fingertips when standing upright or sitting down.
