Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Is this an in-person or online event?
A: Cellothon and Bassoff are entirely online. All events, workshops, and competitions take place in a virtual format via Zoom and video submission platforms.
Q: Do I need to prepare specific repertoire?
A: No. Most events are technique- and skill-based. If a piece is required, it will be listed in the event guide.
Q: What if I can’t attend the event in real time?
A: You can still compete! I accept video recordings for all competitive events. Instructions for submitting recordings will be sent after registration. Submissions must be in Mr. Bastow’s hand by Friday of the event week.
Q: Are recordings judged differently than live participants?
A: No. All submissions are judged using the same rubric and scoring system to ensure fairness.
Q: Will I need special equipment?
A: A computer or tablet with a camera and (internal or external) microphone is enough with original sound on. I recommend an external mic and strong internet for live sessions.
Q: Can I apply for both the scholarship and the early bird discount?
A: Yes, both can apply if you register by May 15.
Q: What age range is this for?
A: All ages are welcome! Participants are grouped and evaluated by skill level, not age.
Q: Are there group performances?
A: There will be online collaborative activities, but no live ensemble playing.
Q: What are the prizes for winners?
A: Top scorers win free private lessons (15–45 minutes), plus digital spotlight features.
Q: Can I participate in both Cellothon and Bassoff?
A: Yes! Just register separately for each instrument. I will offer a register for one register for another half off!
Q: Who do I contact if I have more questions?
A: Please reach out to Jarrett Bastow at jlbastow.music@gmail.com for any questions about registration, event details, or technical concerns.
